Published by Desert island Comics, this issue contains 40 pages of work by Keiichi Tanaami (July 21st 1936-August 9th, 2024)
Keiichi Tanaami has been creating art from a young age and by the 1960s was already pretty reknown. He created album art for legendary bands such as the Monkeys and Jefferson Airplane and also created amazing short animated films. In the 1980s around the age of 45 he suffered from a pulmonary edema and 'hovered at the edge of life and death', experiencing hallucinations which influenced darker themes of his art practice.
He had been preparing for a large-scale retrospective exhibition of his work when he was diagnosed with cancer this summer. He passed away a day after the opening of Keiichi-Tanaami: Adventures in Memory held at The National Art Center, Tokyo on August 8th of 2024. He died on August 9th, 2024 a the age of 88.
Rest in peace.
